What is laser liposuction?

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Last year, an Italian/ Brazilian technology called laser liposuction received approval from the FDA as a method for removing fat in specific areas of the body. It seems that people no longer need to stick to the option of traditional liposuction. There is however, still a lot that we need to know about laser liposuction.

So what is laser  Liposuction?

Laser liposuction is a minimally-invasive fat removal procedure wherein a very small incision is made into which a 1mm cannula is then inserted. The laser tip of the instrument then comes into contact with the fats, heats and then melts the fat up and breaks them down. The melted fat can then be removed from the body immediately via suction. (aspiration). Not always provided with the surgery. Each clinic depends. Other ways include the fat not being sucked out and left simply to flush out through our lymphatic system. Laser intensity is low and can be adjusted as needed. A local anesthetic is all that is needed for laser liposuction.

Laser liposuction is apparently not for everyone. Although some may claim that laser liposuction can work wonders on all parts of your body, it can only really work on limited areas. Only smaller areas like the face, neck and arms can be subjected to this laser treatment.

Similar to traditional liposuction, laser liposuction is a form of body sculpting. It is therefore not a solution for obesity and cannot be used for weight loss. The appropriate candidates for this new technology are people who are fairly healthy and who have only small fat deposits.

The Benefits of Laser Liposuction

Since the procedure is minimally invasive, there is less swelling, bruising, scarring, tissue damage and pain. The incision is said to be so small that a patient no longer needs to be stitched up. This means that the rate of recovery is faster. Patients can get back on their feet in a day or two.

Another advantage of laser liposuction is that it promotes collagen production and tightens the skin aside from merely melting body fats. This is a great improvement compared to traditional liposuction. In traditional liposuction, some patients end up looking worse because of a lack of ideal skin elasticity. Some doctors may use laser liposuction after sessions of traditional liposuction to help tighten the skin.

A British woman suffering from cancer ( inoperable brain tumour) is reported to want to spend £40,000  on Cosmetic surgery, in order to look like her idol movie star Demi Moore.

Lisa Connell, 29, is using her mother Angela’s money that she saved her wedding.

“I’ve always dreamed of looking like Demi Moore and I’m determined that when I die I will,” the Mirror quoted her, a saying.

Despite being a stunning brunette, Lisa has never been happy with her appearance and is convinced the surgery will make her look like the Hollywood actress.

“People think I’m crazy for wanting to do this, but I know it will make my last months or years happier. I want to die beautiful. This is my way of getting the control back in my life,” she added.

As part of the surgery, Lisa will undergo liposuction, a breast enhancement and eyebrow lift, plus work on her skin and teeth to fulfil her dream.

Some benefits to having liposuction?

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Liposuction has a bad name, with  some people thinking that the only people who are getting liposuction are those who are well off people and  with vanity issues, but there has to be some valid reasons that liposuction is, by far, the most popular form of plastic surgery.
In fact the numbers are in excess of a quarter of a million people a year who undergo the procedure. The reasons that the number of liposuction procedures have become so great in recent years is that there are a number of benefits to having it done, aside from the usual stigma of vanity.

Breast Reduction
This is one of the most often overlooked reasons for having liposuction, and this reason can have tremendous health benefits for the patient. Women who have unusually large breasts can regularly suffer from upper and lower back pain, neck pain and sometimes severe headaches. Liposuction can effectively reduce the size of the breast in a minimally invasive procedure and virtually eliminate all of these problems, thereby improving the overall well being of the patient.

There has even been an increase in men having liposuction for a procedure called Gynecomastia. (male breast reduction) and it does not stop at this either, some men are even having other parts lasered such as their love handles, abdomens.

Liposuction should never be considered just another way to lose weight, but for those who have exhausted all other methods of getting the results that they can be happy with - those who have been on diets prescribed by nutritionists and have spent the time sweating and exercising in the gym, but still can’t get the desired shape to their bodies, liposuction is a very viable option to obtain those results.

There is a misconception among the general public that the morbidly obese can just waltz into a clinic and have every ounce of fat sucked out of them, that they can suddenly be fit and trim without having to put in any work or effort at all. This really couldn’t be further from the truth, the process of liposuction can only really remove small amount of fat from a person at a time, usually less than ten pounds in a session; so liposuction can’t really be considered as an end all weight loss option for someone who is severely overweight, but it is a very good choice for someone who’s worked their way down to the last few stubborn pounds that just won’t come off with regular exercise and a sensible diet plan.
